Scholars at Risk (SAR) is currently seeking host institutions for scholars facing serious threats to their safety, academic freedom, and professional work. These individuals are highly qualified academics who have been displaced due to conflict, political repression, or targeted harassment. Hosting a scholar is a concrete way for institutions to support academic freedom and contribute to global solidarity.

📌 Scholars Currently Seeking Opportunities:

1. Water Engineering & Resource Management

  • Country of Origin: Afghanistan
  • Expertise: Hydrologic and watershed modeling, water-related disasters, socio-economic development
  • Background: Over 10 years of teaching and research in Afghanistan and the US
  • Risk: Displaced due to ongoing conflict and threats related to academic work
  • Seeking: Teaching or research position in the US (available immediately)

2. Chemical Engineering

  • Country of Origin: Myanmar
  • Expertise: Membrane science, separation technology, water purification
  • Background: 15 years of academic experience in Myanmar and Japan
  • Risk: Loss of position, risk of arrest due to participation in the Civil Disobedience Movement
  • Seeking: Research position, available immediately

3. Sustainable Development

  • Country of Origin: Nicaragua
  • Expertise: Environmental studies, indigenous studies, land rights
